Brianne West, the CEO and Founder, established Ethique in her kitchen in 2012 when she began experimenting with solid shampoo bars. Today, the company boasts over 100 products in its range.

As of 2021, the company has saved over 20 million single-use plastic bottles from being made or disposed of in landfills around the world, over 3 million gallons of water from being wasted, and has planted over 350,000 trees. Ethique has created the "Compact by Design" initiative to identify products that, while they may not always look very different, have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products require less packaging and become more efficient to ship. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.

One example of an Ethique product is the Calming Shampoo Bar. This soap-free bar gently cleanses away scalp woes with a rich lather, thanks to a blend of oils and soothing oatmeal that help calm and nourish the scalp. The bar is formulated using a powerful blend of neem and karanja oils, renowned for their healing properties in Ayurvedic medicine, soothing oatmeal, cocoa butter, and coconut oil, all of which provide softness and shine to the hair.

Each shampoo bar lasts at least 80 washes, equivalent to three bottles of liquid shampoo, making it a more cost-effective and eco-friendly choice. The bar has recyclable, home-compostable packaging, and the ingredients are vegan, cruelty-free, palm oil-free, paraben-free, and sourced from sustainable producers paid a fair wage.
