Brianne West, the CEO and Founder, began Ethique in her kitchen in 2012 when she started experimenting with solid shampoo bars. Today, Ethique has over 100 products in their range.

As of 2021, Ethique has saved over 20 million single-use plastic bottles from being made or disposed of in landfills, over 3 million gallons of water from being wasted, and has planted over 350,000 trees.

Ethique's Compact by Design initiative focuses on sustainability by making small changes in product size and weight to lead to lower carbon emissions. By removing excess air and water, Ethique's products require less packaging and become more efficient to ship. These small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.

One of Ethique's products, the Shampoo & Shave Bar, is a perfect plastic-free multitasker. It has been specially formulated to work as both a shampoo and a shave bar, providing a great lather. The bar is made with fairly traded organic cocoa butter and coconut oil to soften and restore hair, and gentle surfactants and kaolin clay to create a soft, rich lather for a close, smooth shave. Each shampoo bar lasts at least 80 washes, equivalent to three bottles of liquid shampoo. The bar has recyclable, home-compostable packaging, and is formulated using vegan, cruelty-free, palm oil-free, and paraben-free ingredients, sourced from sustainable producers paid a fair wage.
